An adult volunteer is screened, trained, and then matched with a child, ages 10-17, who is in need of a responsible and caring adult role model. A child is eligible for this activity if he/she is active with the Juvenile Probation Department. The child will be matched with a volunteer of the same gender. The volunteer is required to visit with the child for at least one hour per week, for no less than a twelve month period. During the gatherings, the client and volunteer participate in recreational, and social activities of interest to them. The program helps reduce expenses incurred by volunteer by providing free or reduced price food coupons, admission tickets to amusement parks, sporting events, and/or other recreational enrichment activities.
